SBAC INFO Coming Soon!

What test(s) does my student have to take or pass in high school?

CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Progress and Performance/Smarter Balance): The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, or CAASPP, which has replaced the Standardized Testing and Reporting, or STAR Program, is the new state academic testing program. CAASPP is a system intended to provide information that can be used to monitor student progress and ensure that all students leave high school ready for college and career.

Following the spring 2015 testing, students will receive individual score reports. Student score reports will be sent home to parents and will include an overall score, a description of the student’s achievement level for English–language arts and mathematics, and other information. It is important to note that these scores cannot be compared to scores that your child previously received on the STAR Program tests because this test is based on the new Common Core State Standards, involves different types of test questions, and will not be reported using the STAR Program reporting categories.

If you would like more information, please visit the Parent/Student tab of the CDE CAASPP Web page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/

CAHSEE (California High School Exit Exam): Every student must take and pass the CAHSEE in both English/Language Arts and Mathematics. Each 10th grader will take this test for the first time in March of their sophomore year. If a student does not pass either the ELA or Math section of the test they will have six additional opportunities in their junior and senior year to pass in order to meet graduation requirements.

College Entrance Exams: The two official college entrance exams are the: SAT I and the ACT plus writing:

PSAT Test: Canyon High School offers the official prep/practice test for the SAT (the PSAT) in October every year. Students are welcome to sign-up for this assessment but it is not required for them to do so. The junior year is when the PSAT test acts as a qualifying test for a student to earn the designation of “National Merit Scholar”. This designation is noteworthy and it definitely enhances a college application.

PLAN and EXPLORE Tests: Canyon High School offers the PLAN and EXPLORE tests that are prep/practice tests for the ACT test in October every year. Each student is welcome to sign up for these assessments but it is not required for them to do so. The EXPLORE is "normed" for freshman and the PLAN is "normed" for sophomores.
